Tour description

From the port of Palermo, after meeting your private guide, you’ll begin your walking tour through the capital of Sicily. Founded in the 8th century BC, Palermo has always been one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean. This vibrant city was once considered one of the most beautiful in Europe, a cultural and commercial hub frequented by Jewish merchants, Greek artisans, and Persian artists.

Your first stop will be at Quattro Canti Square, an octagonal piazza at the intersection of Palermo’s two main streets: Via Maqueda and the Cassaro (now Via Vittorio Emanuele). The square takes its name from the four statues representing the seasons, placed at the base of the Baroque façades. The tour continues to Piazza Pretoria, where you’ll admire the famous Fontana Pretoria, also known as the “Fountain of Shame” due to the nudity of the statues surrounding it.

Strolling through the heart of Palermo, you’ll reach Piazza Bellini, considered the most beautiful square in the city. This area hosts three of Palermo’s most iconic churches: La Martorana, San Cataldo (both built during the Norman era and listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites), and Santa Caterina.

The last stop of your guided tour is the majestic Palermo Cathedral, a stunning architectural mix of Gothic, Arab, and Baroque styles. You’ll easily recognize it by the square in front, where the statue of Saint Rosalia, the city’s patron saint, stands tall.

At the end of your walking tour, you’ll return to the port of Palermo with ample time to board your cruise ship safely.
